Plenty of Time

Slowing down because I've decided to embrace the idea that time is plentiful and there is more than enough. While taking Jude Hill's class this winter, a need for a new bathroom curtain cropped up. An old linen tablecloth was found in the stash. Strips were ripped and woven into the tablecloth and now begins the pleasure of handstitching every strip into place. Doodling and mending with needle and thread, handling the cloth. Some may say laborious. It's all a matter of perspective.
 Teddy likes this.
I'm deep into cracking the code over on Typepad. I'll try to keep to my usual blogging schedule in the meantime. Soon, hopefully, I'll be moving.

  2. I love my Teddy! It is nice to do this kind of handwork. More like artwork and very tactile.

  3. Be sure to keep us posted on your progress on it. It looks like a wonderful piece to have in one's hands. And you have a cat's approval? No more need be said.

  4. Yes Patti, it has Teddy's approval. It is very nice to feel it. The linen is quite old and a bit threadbare. So the layers of cloth will extend it's life. I wonder how many Sunday dinner's it has seen?

  5. I like that you say there is enough time. Being in the present is always the best way to be in focus and happy with what you've got. When you have a wonderful project to work on, what more could you need?

  7. Cats always have the good taste to know when something is worthwhile. Isn't it wonderful to have something old and give it new life! Hand-stitching seems such a timeless occupation, very meditative, and so creative, so enjoy your time out with this project and let us see the final product!

  9. Yes, Cheryl. I do look forward to this bit of sewing everyday. Embracing the concept of "enough time" is something I really trying to give some thought to. It's a source of inbalance in my life ... wish me luck.

  10. When I finish this curtain, whenever that might be, I promise to show it hanging from the window. It is my "I have plenty of time" project.

  11. Beautiful fabrics for the curtain, I compliment you on your patience and your idea that there is plenty of time (send some of that patience my way, please). And your cat is cute. They always do like to sit on the prettiest things, don't they?

  13. I find your work to be so inspiring! I know I've said before I want to start adding fabric and stitching to my mixed media collages, art journals, and memory books, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I think I need to set a serious goal for the summer months to learn some of the basics!:-)

  14. Not sure if Teddy's helping to give it that "shabby chic" look with a little claw work or just enjoying the soft place to recline. Either way it's looking good.

  15. Thank you, Jenny! That might make a good online class: adding stitch to your artwork ...

  16. Hazel, Teddy thinks everything looks better with him on it (I tend to agree). This curtain may wind up being the wonkiest ever. And that is just fine.
