Art & Soul, Hampton 2009 Part 1 of 3

Well, I'm ba-aack! In the process of unpacking (still), catching up with the laundry and, yuck, the kitchen floor and zzzz's.

Hampton was great - a warm and friendly, creative frenzy. My first class was Journal Spilling. I forgot to take pics during the class but managed to get a few at the Journal Meet (more about that later)

Here's a sample of the first page we did ... spill writing, gessoed, spill collage, water soluble crayons scratched into with an awl. I love the way the crayon unites the page and is smeared into the gessoed writing. IThe little figure down on the lower right seems to be watching this all unfolding before her.
A collage spill. A jumping horse, a floating robot with a flower. Isn't it funny what happens when you let go and work quickly. I love those swirly cloud-like fingerprints in this piece.

A paper doll. The hands holding each other and an almost - is it wistful? - expression. This felt Matisse-like to me. She's sitting on a watercolored background.

Here is another Spilled Writing/Spilled Color/Spilled Collage piece. The artist had a bit of an awakening while in the process of this one. I love the colorful "bars" and the muted greens in the rest of the piece. But the best thing about all of these? They were meaningful to the artists.
More very soon!

Diana - your class was so much fun! I got so much out of it to take with me! i have been showing off the techniques I have learned and can't wait to start playing with inks myself.
Congratulations on your article in Cloth Paper Scissors! The cute stuffies would make a good class. I'll look forward to taking another class with you!
