Creative Awakenings with Chocolate Chaser

So anyway, I was sitting around the other day reading this lovely book, Creative Awakenings, by Sherri Gaynor, a life and creativity coach and artist. It was a quiet afternoon. I was alone in the house. Everything was just fine. This is a nice book, a collaborative project Sherri facilitated with some well-known mixed media artists. Each chapter (or month) features one artist and his/her process of creating the artwork. Including techniques such as creating textured work on clayboard and transferring an image to cloth, I'll be looking here for ideas. Rich images and words, it will be a  great inspiration for journaling. If you are looking for a process to get your creative on, this may be a good read for you.

The candles were lit. I was zoning a bit. A stray thought came to mind. You might be thinking it was something like "I reached over my cup of herbal tea, breathing in the sweet aroma of pure beeswax candles and took my journal and pen to hand ...". Well, no.

I thought of the box of See's Chocolates my sister sent me for Christmas. The thought seized me and threw me up off of the sofa. There I went, tripping over my blankie, nearly spraining my ankle what with the slippers falling off my feet in my chocolate fever. "The top of the frig, they are on the top of the frig" was the poetic thought chasing through my mind. The Hallalujah Chorus! There were at least 8 chocolates in there. As I bit into the first one, which happened to be the diamond in the crown that is See's Chocolates, that masterpiece of the chocolate maker's and eater's art, the thought came that this was going to be bad. Really ... bad.

I was transformed in that moment from a middle aged woman cozily reading a book on a cold afternoon to an ant in a sugar bowl. Helpless, I bit into another. "Don't like that one" and I dropped it back into the box half-eaten. I ate another and another. I had some pride, nibbling only the chocolate on my less favorite flavors. But I took a bite out of every dang chocolate. And it was fine.

And that is all there is to say about that. Keep 'em coming, sis!

See's makes the best chocolate covered molasses chips in the world. It's a fact. The rest of their chocolates are all excellent; and, there's no shame about consuming (in any way) a masterpiece.

Oh! I am so grateful for the review. I am also not surprised that the book created a craving for the woman's delight. All my workshops feature...CHOCOLATE, it's just a part of the process.

Thanks Diana and have a a joyous and creative New Year!

Amy - NO! Do not send another box!

Everyone else: Amy is my sister and Nanny is what my family calls me. That's "Nehnee" with the famous Philly twist on the vowel.

HA! This cracked me up. I had a vivid mental picture of a thought bubble suddenly appearing over your head, and your description of tripping over your blanket in your rush to get to to the chocolate made me think of... well, me. : )
