Whimsdays in 2010

Happy New Year's everyone. Thanks to all of you for reading my blog, commenters and non-commenters alike. 

I was having the usual New Year's Resolution tug over the last couple of weeks. Should I resolve to draw more? I really should. My brand new journal (above) was started out with thoughts about this resolution, including a page that reads in bold RED sharpie:

"Guidelines for My Year"

1. Draw everywhere*anywhere*anything

2. Sundays: gather any drawing that is "elsewhere", copy it and put it in the FOLDER or box."

Meanwhile, throughout this struggle with my personal devil (aka, Stewie, my critic), I was fully engaged in a new practice "Whimsday". What fun I was having on these days! Following through on any whim or fancy passing through my mind.

I felt like using my square shape punch and playing with some origami paper. So I did, I cut some of the squares into triangles and then used them on my new journal (above). I felt like sewing. So I made some pouches. I felt like putting iron-on vinyl on muslim, so I did it and they became little tags to label the pouches (Stewie loves labels).

I felt like playing with my fabric scraps. After allowing myself the time to iron my scraps (Stewie liked that as well), I applied double-stick tape to the backs of the fabrics and will definitely enjoy using them in my journal. I thought I saw this idea over at Mairuru's blog, but can't find it now. I also made two of the Hana Coasters from her blog. Fun.

I felt like making a magnolia using this Paper Source Kit my sis gave me for Christmas. So I did it. It was exactly like being a kid at Christmas; just moving from toy to toy. Playing away. Yay.

Yesterday, I was thumbing through my journal and re-read my "New Years Resolution" thingie. Ugh ugh ugh. Nope. I am not going to boss myself around this year. Especially not in bold, shouting red pen. I'm goin' with the Whimsday (maybe a Flickr group would be in order?).

And when my journal is out, I'll be making an effort to draw in it.
