The NorthEast Kingdom and (W)Holons

Some of you might remember some rambling posts about the NorthEast Kingdom here and here and on my website you can read about it here. This place and people have been alive in my imagination for years. It all seems so real to me somehow, evolving and unfolding and sweeping me along in the story. I simply make the next pieces of art. The process is exhilarating, like looking into a snowglobe and having the picture appear. All of my paintings come from this rich source. Here are some recent pieces.

I am so grateful to have a very talented group of fellow women artists, MamaCita, to show my work. It is great to have the deadlines and we are all very excited about this show. I love this group.

Here's the premise for the show: a holon (defined here) is a part, a living and complete piece, and it is also a whole. Each MamaCita has made three 4"x 4" squares in our own individual style. These will be hung in a grid: six squares high by eleven squares long. So that each little 4x4 is a finished piece unto itself and it is also a part. I love this idea. We are also each making a 20" x 20" piece and that is my big fun painting project this summer. I am making two pieces so that I can play back and forth between them. I'll be photographing them along the way and sharing the process with you. More very soon ...
