Monday Morning

I grew up on the idea of getting the "work" out of the way first and saving the fun stuff for when you are done. Malarkey. Take a 5 minute break before you start working with something that will motivate you.
I'm gonna start this morning with a list of the high points of my week; instead of the dreaded bookkeeping that I know is waiting for me in a big messy heap.

Fun stuff such as blogging about wabi sabi. Do you know about Wabi-Sabi? Here is a children's book that is, in my mind, the perfection introduction.

Wabi-Sabi, by Mark Reibstein with art by Ed Young, is about a cat named wabi sabi.

Here is the introduction:

"It is a way of seeing the world that is at the heart of Japanese culture. It finds beauty and harmony in what is simple, imperfect, natural, modest and mysterious. It can be a little dark but it is also warm and comfortable. It may best be understood as a feeling rather than an idea.

Let's just leave it at that. As usual, Japanese culture simply hints at things. It is up to you to use your imagination.

And now, I'm off to do my bookkeeping. (One and a half weeks to Thanksgiving, and counting).

oh - so perfect - I was just talking about Wabi Sabi with someone last week. Thanks for the book tip! I also like to use "Wabi Sabi for Artists, Poets and Philosophers"

Now - if only I could accept Wabi Sabi in myself, or my home...or my work.

I have been in love with wabi sabi for a while now. Maybe you can come up with some sort of wabi sabi nudge -- leave paper out in the weather for a week or so, then use it in your journal? Hmmm.

Oh I must get that book for my 13 year old daughter- we both have a passion for children's books.
Just look around my house and you will see that I gave up "the chores must come first" long ago!!!! HA!!!!

I hope that hyou can get the dreaded book work out of the way super fast!!!!!

Well I got all inspired and painted and tore up a bunch of paper today and made a journal page that I hope is Wabi Sabi...it is my interpretation anyway. : )
