The Pamphlet Stitch

Some time ago, there was a comment about the Pamphlet Stitch. It is a super simple little stitch; perfect for binding just a few pages together. I love it because it makes it so simple to make a bunch of little "on the go" journals. If you don't know the stitch, here is my latest YouTube video demonstrating it.

For these books, I used:
Awl, bone folder, 2 binder clips, waxed linen thread (although for small sized books you could use embroidery floss), 1 piece cardstock (mine is paste paper), 5-8 pieces of assorted paper (graph paper, lined paper, brown paper, white paper, etc.)
The nicest thing about making these little books is that, once you have the tools and materials out, you can make a bunch of them. Use them for small gifts, by inserting some quotes or pictures or bundling them with a set of pencils and/or pens. Or tie a bunch of these small gems together with a bit of ribbon for your favorite journal artist.

Or a trade!! Oh my goodness! A little trade would be fun! Perhaps after the perfect storm of holidays, parties and exhaustion has passed? Shall we?

Trade sounds fun! I love the way you use a phone book as a sewing cradle. Keeps 'em out of landfills, too!

Diana: after meeting you in Danbury, I have bought your book and video and am now a dedicated reader of your blog. Love your little journal and the pamphlet stitch, and I think a little swap after the holidays would be a great way to kick off the new year. For years now I have carried a small notebook in which I record book titles for purchase or reading. I love the idea of a new little book for each month!!! Hope to see you in a class in Danbury next year!!!!

Hmmm -- I might be ready for a trade after New Year's Day. . . .

I have been binding my zines with pamphlet stitch. Tried the five-hole version this year -- the covers were heavier than usual, and I think it did a better job of holding everything together.

Judy, you are a step ahead of me. My next vid will be the five hole pamphlet stitch. I'm so glad everyone is excited about a swap. I'll announce in about a month.

Yes, count me in on a trade. I'm just learning how to make journals and this pamphlet stitch looks like an easy way to get the job done.
