Painting Process, Rounds 5 and 6

Between the rain cooling off the roof of my house and the sun not beating on it, I was able to get into the studio this week. I finished one of the paintings!
Round 5: Below are the unfinished 2nd paintings. I'm starting to set up the middle/foreground areas and having some fun with color and pattern.
There is flatness in the middle ground of the above painting. I'll take care of that when I add some flora and fauna. I'm liking the foreground alot, what appears to be rocky areas in the bottom of the piece. I think there may be rocks and mossy areas coming into middle ground here. And flowers. We'll see.
Here is painting #1. The foreground, middle ground and background are well established here. The mountains fade into the background nicely and the houses are clearly in the front with the trees behind them. I started having so many ideas of where to go with this painting! I like the idea of using little doodle-drawings as collage instead of painting people and flowers. It felt like a good way to bring drawing into painting. There were more ideas that I kept having but you can only fit so many things into one painting so they will have to wait till I get to finishing the other painting. This is one of the reasons that it is good to work on more than one piece at a time.

Here is the painting, finished (or as it stands now)
I feel happy when I look at it. It is full of color and feels like I can finally see a larger piece of the NorthEast Kingdom. I'll let it dry thoroughly and then apply a couple of coats of satin varnish. I hope that you all have enjoyed this process. It was a great challenge for me. I feel a bit relieved that this is finished in plenty of time for the deadline though I look forward to finishing the 2nd painting.

Have a great weekend, all!

The colors are so vibrant. Love the new look of your blog too. Do you care to share how you made tabs that look like that? Mine are just words, not really a tab.

I love the colors! I've always wanted to try painting, but have always held back for some reason. I'm glad the weather allowed you some studio time, have a Blessed week!
