Pimping Out My Daytimer

I had a dull black daytimer until Academy Awards Night. Every year, it's the same question: what to do on the big night between looking at the dresses (and OK, Colin Firth). I also enjoy the speeches about how the stars owe their fame to their moms. Yeah, I'm a sucker.

This year, Hannah Andersson of iHanna inspired me to pimp out my daytimer with this post.

With Daytimer, papers, stickers and paint in hand (and a box of tissues for the mommy speeches), I had myself a nice night.

I stuck a bit of tape to a paperclip to mark the current week but look at this cute bow-topped paperclip from How About Orange. You could definitely riff on that idea. More paint will be added to the front of the book at some point and the fake leather took the acrylics very well after a couple of coats of gesso.

The good news is that I like using my Daytimer more now. I took out all of the pages that never get used, such as the address book section and added sections with fun tabs :) that are useful, such as the ephemeral ideas that float through my mind on blogging and workshop ideas. It is much more fun to use and makes sense.

Tomorrow, I promise to post about Italy. This just seemed like a good Sunday night, back-to-work tomorrow post. It's a darn good weekend project and now you have all week to think about it.

Very nice! I've been thinking about doing something with my planner at work . . . hmmm.

What a great idea! Thanks for the link to the tutorial. This is a definite must do for me. Might help keep me a bit more organised.

Yay how cool it is! I use mine too a lot, because it's pretty though your tabs came out much nicer than mine!

Oh, and I really do spell my name the way I write it in emails etc, without the H at the end... It's the Swedish way! :-)

LOVE it!! I do that to mine too!

Cool trick for making tabs/labels/stickers: print out a photo of your art on a page of shipping labels. When you peel them, they're little close ups of parts of your work. Looks cool and abstract.

What a great idea, Tracie! Hanna, I love the way your journal came out - it really got me moving!
Let me know if anyone puts up pics of a redone Daytimer. I'd love to see! Hey! This will be the nudge this week. Yea! Love you guys, thanks for commenting.

It came out great! I love what you did inside and outside too. I did mine a few years ago, with gesso, paint, decopaged calendar pages, stamps and fabric. It's so much nicer to use than the original daytimer style, plus it was fun, too. I highly recommend it. Here's a link to a photo of mine http://www.flickr.com/photos/31453479@N08/5577942631/

I love the feeling and process of 'getting organized.' I may just have to change out the tabs on my daytimer.
